As I'm sure you've seen all across the news and social media, hundreds of thousands of women gathered in Washington on Saturday in a kind of counterinauguration after...President...Trump took office on Friday. A range of speakers and performers cutting across generational lines rallied near the Capitol before marchers made their way toward the White House. They were joined by crowds all around the world; indeed, we had one here in Melbourne.
I was utterly overwhelmed by the amount of inspiring images and videos shared online yesterday that I decided to post my favourites here. I want to see your favourites too - link me in the comments!
» This video of a group of women from different states that had never met till the Women's March. They practiced this song online.
» Ashley Judd's powerful 'nasty woman' speech, borrowing the words of a 19-year-old Tennessee student Nina Donovan.
» After Janelle Monáe spoke at the event ("Get off our areolas; get off our vaginas"), she and Jidenna led the crowd in a call-and-response performance of "Hell You Talmbout." They were joined by the mothers of Trayvon Martin, Mohamed Bah, Eric Garner, Dontre Hamilton, and Jordan Davis.
