As I write this, I'm sitting at my parents holiday house in Italy in the northern lakes district of the country. It's an absolute dream to have access to such a wonderful place, and I'm well aware of how privileged I am to have it. Having somewhere I can escape to in Europe while it is winter in Australia is truly wonderful, and I definitely don't take it for granted.
My holiday in Italy so far has very much been centred around water: lakes, pools, and the ocean. It's the best place to be on a hot day and I could spend an entire day by the water quite happily. Putting together the right look for such a day is all part of the fun too! I always like to wear a light, loose-fitted dress when I'm hanging out at the pool, as it is a great way to keep you protected from the sun as well as being easy to slip on and off as you go swimming. I love this white one from Esprit, as it fits all the points I look for in a summer dress, as well as being really gorgeous!
If you're going to be in the water every day, particularly if you're changing from lake, to ocean, to pool it's also a good idea to have more than one pair of bathers. Generally I like to keep at least one light and one darker pair in my collection at all times, as if you’re spending time in chlorine or salt water they will need to be washed regularly.
I also go pretty light on accessories when hanging out near the water, but wearing a long necklace is a great way to bring an outfit together without too much effort. A simple pendant or chain is perfect, and if it’s in gold or rose gold it’s even better!
Finally, it’s always so important to keep well hydrated when spending the day out in the sun. Keep a bottle of water around at all times to avoid sunstroke and you’ll be set for a perfect day outdoors!
