A Bit Of An Introduction

Well, hello everyone. As we enter a new year, and as I surpass 100 posts here at Bramble & Thorn, I thought it was about time I properly introduced myself to you all. After all, much of this blog is about my life, so it might be nice to tell you a bit more about myself!

As you will have gathered from a quick glance on my page, you'll know that my name is Tessa, I'm 25 years old and work in the media industry in Melbourne. But that's a very generic description, and doesn't really tell you who I am, where I've been, what I want out of life, and where I see this blog going. Let's do this in dot point form, shall we?

1 / Although I live in Melbourne, I grew up in regional Victoria (for those outside of Australia, I've provided a handy map that should provide some context). I spent the first 8 years of my life in Port Fairy and Warrnambool, then lived in Shepparton from ages 8 to 18. I moved to Melbourne at 18 to attend university, and have stayed ever since.

2 / I've been lucky enough to travel throughout my life. My first trip overseas was when I was five, when I spent 3 months in Europe, most of which was with my family in Germany. Since then I've returned to Europe once for an eight month stints (with a two week stopover in New York City), as well as many trips to South East Asia and Japan. My favourite destination so far is Japan, which I’ve now visited three times (!)

3 / I actually quite enjoy cooking, even when I'm returning home from a rough day at work. I pretty much exclusively cook Asian food: Thai salads, Vietnamese noodles, green curries, Japanese soups – if it’s Asian, chances are I will love it. I am trying to branch out and challenge myself a bit more with other cuisines, but I just love how fresh and healthy most Asian dishes are.

4 / When I started this blog in September 2014, I didn't really know what I wanted it to be. I just wanted to write about whatever inspired me, regardless of whether it was fashion, travel, interior design, or film. While I will still write freely about any topic I chose, I'm going to try and narrow my focus to travel and lifestyle, with brief interludes from other topics as I see fit.

5 / I think your iTunes library says a lot about you. Please see my top 25 most played songs and judge accordingly.

6 / The two great passions in my life are film and books. If I'm out and about there's a good chance I'll have a book in my bag, and I try and watch a film at least once a week. My favourite films would probably be Lost in Translation, A Clockwork Orange, Spirited Away, and The Lord Of The Rings trilogy; my favourite novels are The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, The Handmaid's Tale, and The Secret History.

7 / I am absolutely obsessed with the Australian clothing label Gorman. Chances are you will find me in one of their stores the day after I've been paid, picking up a new piece for myself. It’s a bad habit, but I just can’t quit!

8 / This shouldn't really be an interesting fact, but I definitely, unequivocally identify as a feminist. I encourage any woman who still believes feminism to be a man-hating movement to please take the time to read the actual definition.

9 / The two great loves of my life are my dogs, Ziggy and Polly. I don’t get to see them as often as I’d like since I moved out of home a couple of years ago, but they are (objectively speaking, of course) the cutest, funniest and most loyal dogs ever.

About Me - Bramble and Thorn

10 / I absolutely hate – HATE – exercising, but force myself to do it at least twice a week. I go to a studio in Melbourne called Barre Body, which is basically a 50 minute class with a mixture of Pilates, yoga, and ballet. It actually isn’t too awful, and is a very strong workout. After doing these classes for just over a year now I’ve become so much stronger than I have ever been before – I love seeing how toned my arms and legs have become!

11 / Seeing live music is something I try to do as often as I can, and have been fortunate enough to see some pretty incredible bands. My top five live music experiences would have to be Radiohead, Sufjan Stevens, The Decemberists, Florence + The Machine, and The Hives.

12 / Day-to-day I don’t really wear much in the way of makeup. In fact, I only ever really wear foundation for special occasions, as I’m lucky enough to not really need it most of the time. On a regular day at work I’ll just be rocking mascara, eyeliner, and whatever lipstick suits my clothes. Don’t hate me, beauty bloggers!

13 / I probably watch too much TV, and get way too much pleasure when I get the chance to spend my weekend bingewatching something on Netflix. At the moment I’m working my way through The Wire, which is probably one of the best series I’ve ever watched. Other favourite TV shows of mine are Six Feet Under, Game of Thrones, Scrubs, and Seinfeld.

I also just want to take this chance to thank all of you for the incredible support I've received over the past couple of months since I started blogging. I'm absolutely amazed and how caring and supportive the blogging community is, and I truly appreciate every comment that comes my way. I'm so excited to continue learning more about blogging this year, and I hope you all continue to follow along! *hugs*
