Duty free shopping is a beautiful experience when you have leftover currency that you just have to get rid of. Given the exorbitant prices of makeup in Australia, I felt it would be irresponsible of me not to buy myself a bunch of presents...right?
Buying a new perfume is practically essential when you're departing for a new country, as that scent will forever remind you of your time abroad. I picked up Roses de Chloé, a beautiful scent that is (incidentally) perfect for the spring weather back here in Australia. It's not too overpowering either, so I don't have to worry about offending anyone's delicate sensibilities when I'm on the train going to work each morning.
Since my return I've tried out every single product, and have consequently put on a brave face and taken some photos of yours truly wearing them, so you can get a true sense of what each shade looks like on my skin. Before we proceed, two things:
1. I don't consider myself a beauty blogger so may not sound as eloquent as those ladies do. I also have no idea how to take a photo of myself showcasing my makeup "skills" so there's that too.
2. In the lipstick photos I'm not wearing any other makeup so you can get a decent idea on how the colours show up.
With that in mind...
I've wanted this shade for a while as Essiebutton's has raved about it, and I can now see why. It's absolutely gorgeous, and I can tell that this will be a staple in my lipstick rotation for quite a while. It's not too dark, so it's perfect for every day wear, but is also nice enough to wear for a night out. The shade also suits my skin tone perfectly, which is a bonus!
MAC Matte Lipstick in Lady Danger
I'm the first to admit that I probably have too many red lipsticks in my collection, but none of them really felt like me, you know? The closest I've gotten is with a Topshop shade, but it's been looking a little worse for wear lately so I thought I'd pick up a new one. And this is the one. The perfect red lipstick for me. I love the matte look, and it's such a fantastic colour.
MAC Cremesheen in Crosswires
Ok, I admit that this was also bought on the recommendation from Essiebutton's. What can I say, the gal has flawless taste! This is a bit of a pinker shade, which is something I'm not really accustomed to but actually really love! It's absolutely perfect for spring and summer, and to be honest I don't know why I resisted this kind of lipstick for so long, it's so pretty!
Chanel Nail Colour in Rouge Noir
One of the reasons I love Chanel nail polish is its staying power. I can usually apply once and wear it for at least five days without any hint of a chip, which in itself is not really enough to justify the price...but it sure helps. I absolutely adore this shade, but it started chipping off the day after I applied it. Not good! I had to reapply a couple of times throughout the week, which was quite disappointing. Maybe I was just a bit rough on my nails that week, but the first impression was not great.
Chanel Nail Colour in Orage
Ok, this is more like it! Not only has this shade become one of my favourites after the first wear, it stayed on for an entire week (count it: seven days!) without chipping. I didn't have to touch up any chips at all! Really happy with this one, I'll definitely be buying this again when it runs out.
This was my attempt at getting a more neutral colour - a baby pink shade with gold flecks. It's a very pretty colour, but needs a couple of layers for it to really come through. I'm usually a little wary of glitter in nail polish as it's usually an absolute nightmare to get off my nails, but it came off quite easily. This one lasted about five days before chipping, a decent result and another great purchase.
