Let's be honest: I haven't had the best self-control this month when it comes to purchases. I've already blogged about my makeup haul from Mecca Maxima, which was an incredibly fun but pricy adventure, and along the way I've picked up a couple of other treats.
Although I am a huge fan of Chanel's gorgeous (but way overpriced) nail polish, I actually quite like Topshop's matte nail polish. They're relatively inexpensive, and usually stay on for at least four days before chipping (although I generally reapply every couple of days to maintain the matte look). I know not everyone likes it, but I'm a huge advocate for matte nail polish and am going to ride this trend until it dies.
On the other end of the spectrum, I splurged a bit on the MAC powder as I've heard great things about it. It's also one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen, the colours are absolutely stunning. I'm also please to report that it is incredible to wear, it looks beautiful on your skin - not too 'glittery', just a pretty finish.
Lovely quarterly publication Cereal has just released their latest volume, which has some gorgeous features on Marrakech, New York City, and Bristol. The pieces are always thoughtfully written, and accompanied by the most incredible photography. I really recommend checking them out, I have been reading Cereal since it was first released last year and have yet to be disappointed by an issue. And continuing with my obsession with the printed word, I picked up a copy of Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier, which I've been meaning to do for ages. Earlier this year I read Fisherman's Creek by her (which I absolutely loved) and heard that Rebecca was her most popular book. The below review from Goodreads completely sold it for me: "This is it. THE delicious, curl up next to the fire under a blanket with tea book. THE windowsill on a rainy day with your pet book. THE stay up all night book. A chill goes down your spine (but in a good way!) while reading it. It is a masterpiece of gothic literature, the inheritor of the tradition of novels like Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre."
In last month's favourites, I mentioned that I was slowly becoming obsessed with American Apparel. Well, I'm afraid to say it's now a full-blown addiction. I bought their tie-up blouse in Jungle Print and I absolutely love it! It's a beautiful light cotton material that will be absolutely perfect for summer, and it's really flattering to wear with high wasted skirts or shorts.
